The Spirit of the PointsProfessor J.R. Worsley (14 September 1923 2 June 2004) resurrected the ancient system of medicine to which he gave the modern label: “Classical Five-Element Acupuncture” (CF-EA). One of the many features that distinguish CF-EA from other types of acupuncture is the ultimate regard given to each individual's whole, and totally unique, Body/Mind/Spirit. In working with this vital life force, CF-EA promotes the return to health and wellbeing of the Body/Mind/Spirit. In treatment, acupuncture points are selected in the understanding that each point provides its own special dynamic resource for the whole. In ancient days, the Chinese characters that name each of the 361 points were created by skilled and highly-regarded calligraphers. Our modern transliteration of these characters into mere words is inadequate to describe the inherent power of each point. We were lucky to find and commission two very fine calligraphers for the project: Harrison Xinshi Tu and Marlow Brooks. Their original artwork is now for sale, and can be viewed and ordered on-line. More about the artists, with purchasing details, can be seen on the following pages. We welcome you to write, if you have questions, to jwhitehouse@worsleyacupuncture.com. Professor Worsley’s life ambition was to write his most important book, The Spirit of the Points. His particular background was in ancient Chinese teaching and this last work compiles decades of his experience and teachings; he gave the final set of notes for the book some months before he died. A dedicated team is working with me, Professor Worsley’s wife and student, to follow through with his wish that the volume be published. We hope you enjoy your original artwork, created by these very fine artists, expressing a beautiful and ancient form of healing. Judy Becker Worsley
